The School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is pleased to announce that Professor Dong XU has been awarded funding under the third round of the Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-plus (RAISe+). His project is among seven HKU projects selected in this round – the highest number among local institutions.
Project Title: “AI-powered Platform for 3D Content Generation, Visualization and Interaction”
Project Details:Today’s 3D content generation platforms still lack the realism and interactivity needed to deliver truly immersive experiences. Through this RAISe+ project, XIntelligence is redefining the future of communication, entertainment and intelligent robotics with breakthrough spatial intelligence technology capable of perceiving, generating, reasoning about, and interacting with the 3D world. Powered by advanced deep learning, the team transforms flat 2D video into vivid, interactive 3D experiences with depth, motion, and lifelike realism. The result is a powerful AI platform that can unlock new possibilities across immersive storytelling, gaming, education, robotics, and beyond—bringing people into worlds that extend far beyond the screen.
Launched in October 2023 by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, the RAISe+ initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application, with each approved project may receive funding support that ranges from $10 million to $100 million.
